IMPORTANCE OF MANGROVES AND CORAL REEFS

Philippines is a very beautiful country. It is rich in natural resources like mangroves and coral reefs.

Mangroves protects shorelines from the storms , strong winds , waves and floods . It also helps prevent erosion with the use of their tangled roots.

It maintains good quality of water by filtering it and it also traps the dirt coming from the land.

Mangroves serves as a shelter to the fishes , shrimps , and other small species in the water , also to the birds , snakes , monkeys and any other animals for them to be protected.

Mangroves being a natural water resistant wood also use in building houses , boats , and furniture

It is also used for the production of charcoal which helps us in cooking our food.

Mangrove leaves are used in tea medicine and livestock feeds.

Mangrove is very useful in human lives, because of it we have good food to eat, a shelter to live in, it also helps in curing our ailments. Maybe without mangroves we have small production of sea foods , a shortage in construction materials.

On the other hand, coral reefs likewise is very important. Coral reefs is a source of food and shelter of the small species under the sea.

I believe that our coral reefs is one of the tourist spots here in the Philippines especially for those who love the sea , the divers or researchers.

Coral reefs also helps form a natural barrier to protect the shorelines to prevent water going to the land.

It is also used as a medicine for the treatment of cancer , HIV , cardiovascular deceases , ulcers and others.

Many people around the world rely on coral reefs for food and livelihood. Many people destroy coral reefs by their destructive fishing by throwing dynamite without knowing that the people who lives near in the seashore wouldn't be that easy to take the risks.

So, we must preserved our coral reefs and mangroves for us to have a longer use of its benefits for our own good.
